What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide receptor antogonist which basically improves glycemic control in the pancreas. Semaglutide will delay gastric emptying by reducing glucagon secretion which reduces appetite, lowers sugar cravings and improves overall ability to control eating habits.
This drug has shown remarkable results from multiple studies, with patients losing an average of 30 pounds (16% body weight) over the course of 12 weeks.
What is Tirzepatide ?
Tirzepatide is also a a glucagon-like peptide receptor antogonist which basically improves glycemic control in the pancreas. This unique medication that mimics two hormones naturally found in the body: GLP-1 and GIP.
Tirzepatide also reduces the time for the stomach to empty its contents, suppressing appetite.
Study's have shown more significant weight loss with Tirzepatide and milder side effects as compared to Semaglutide. Using tirzepatide resulted in a weight loss of 17.8% (95% CI: 16.3%-19.3%) compared with 12.4% (95% CI: 11.5%-13.4%) for semaglutide.

ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS
Most common side effects are: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach (abdomen) pain, headache, tiredness (fatigue), upset stomach, dizziness, feeling full, belching, gas, stomach flu, and heartburn. Once you get started on the medication, your provider will slowly raise your dosage every 4 weeks to help make these effects more manageable.
HOW IS THIS INJECTION ADMINISTERED?
Weekly subcutaneous injection. While some of you may be afraid of injections, these are actually quite straightforward injections with a VERY SMALL needle into the abdominal area (like insulin injections). There are big advantages to the once-weekly dosing - you don’t have to remember your medications and the semaglutide is working 24/7 suppressing your appetite without the stimulant effects of typical weight loss medication.

Tirzepatide is a unique medication that mimics two hormones naturally found in the body: GLP-1 and GIP.

HOW MUCH WEIGHT CAN I EXPECT TO LOSE ?
In total, adults on semaglutide treatment lost an average 33.7 lb (15.3 kg) by week 68, while those in the placebo/lifestyle intervention group saw only a modest 5.7 lb (2.6 kg) weight loss (estimated treatment difference -30 lb [-12.7 kg].
Within only the first 4 weeks of treatment initiation, those on semaglutide had more than a 2% reduction in body weight, and continued to lose weight throughout the 68-week trial. New England Journal of Medicine

IS THERE ANYONE THAT CANNOT TAKE SEMAGLUTIDE or TIRZEPATIDE?
There are rare situations where Semaglutide & tirzepatide is contraindicated. Patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or in patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Individuals suffering from pre-existing health conditions such as pancreatitis, decreased kidney function, low blood sugar, gallbladder disease, and diabetic retinopathy, should not take Semaglutide.
